Anthony Carter, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon at Hampton Roads Orthopaedics Spine and Sports Medicine, was recently published again. Dr. Carter authored two chapters in the book, Anterior Hip Replacement From Origin to Current Advanced Techniques, and he previously authored one chapter in another book on Anterior Hip Revision.

In the new book, Anterior Hip Replacement, Dr. Carter discusses how to successfully prepare and gain exposure of the femur in total hip replacement surgeries, using the direct anterior approach. “Since adopting the approach in 2005, I have learned several key lessons and tips to facilitate exposure in preparation of the femur,” says Dr. Carter.

Dr. Carter is a forerunner in his field, having introduced the direct anterior approach to total hip replacement as well as minimally invasive total knee replacement to the Hampton Roads region. As a leading expert in his field with more than 15 years of experience performing anterior total hip replacement surgeries, Dr. Carter is widely recognized, lecturing both nationally and internationally and serving as a peer reviewer for journal articles.

For more than 30 years, he has been practicing medicine as an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in anterior hip replacement and tourniquetless knee replacement. Dr. Carter continues to advance patient care by educating other surgeons around the globe.
