WOUND CARE TREATMENTS: Our approach to Advanced Healing Techniques In yorktown, VA

Our team conducts a diagnostic assessment of each patient before developing an individualized treatment plan for an unparalleled level of wound care on The Peninsula. Assessments include utilizing the latest technology and advanced modalities in wound healing that are safe, effective and non-invasive whenever possible, including:

APPLICATION OF CELL AND TISSUE PRODUCTS

Cellular and tissue-based products are engineered skin replacements used to provide extensive and long-lasting coverage for wounds. Because the products replicate the structure and functions of healthy skin but do not have to be transplanted from a patient’s body, their use reduces pain and healing times and negates the creation of new wounds for the patient. Plus, since the tissue is not taken from a donor, there is no chance of transplant rejection.

MLS LASER THERAPY

MLS Laser Therapy is a non-invasive, safe, and effective treatment modality where light is used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote wound healing and soft tissue repair. Our laser is the only multi-wave locked system, dual wave, fully robotic laser therapy system on the market and serving the Newport News area. This means deeper penetration with no heat produced, allowing faster healing with no known side effects. It has been cleared by the FDA since 2009.

The HROSM Wound Care Center offers three types of wound therapy: TheraSkin, Osiris and Kerecis. Skin grafts are typically used for larger wounds that are difficult to heal on their own. A healthy piece of skin is taken from part of the body and transplanted on the wounded skin. As your wound heals, the skin graft is absorbed or sloughed off, replaced by your own healthy tissue.

Cold laser therapy treats mild, moderate and difficult-to-heal wounds. Also called low-laser therapy, this treatment uses deep-penetrating light to heal tissues, reduce pain and decrease inflammation. A versatile treatment, other uses of this type of therapy include treating hair loss, chronic pain and cosmetic and dermatologic conditions.

Wound VAC Therapy, also called Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, is the vacuum-assisted closure of a wound. The gases in the air around us put pressure on the surface of our bodies, and a wound vacuum device removes this pressure over the area of the wound. By removing the air, it can help a wound heal. If the fluid is pulled from a wound, swelling may be reduced and bacteria removed. A wound VAC can help pull the edges of the wound together and may stimulate the growth of new tissue to help the wound close.
