What Is The Canon MRI Machine?

The Vantage Galan 3T MRI system is an open-bore system that boosts powerful 3T magnetic forces to capture extremely detailed, highly accurate images. Using advanced techniques, this machine is designed with patient comfort in mind. With cutting-edge software, it reduces noise by up to 97%, making it a quieter and more pleasant experience for patients. Most importantly, its high-resolution imaging is crucial for accurately diagnosing a wide range of conditions, from sports injuries to chronic joint pain.

What Can The Canon MRI Machine Do?

The Canon Vantage Galan 3T MRI System is a state-of-the-art imaging machine designed for advanced diagnostic capabilities, particularly in cancer and disease screenings. Equipped with high-resolution imaging technology, this system provides detailed views of internal organs, tissues and structures, enabling physicians to detect abnormalities with exceptional accuracy. Its innovative design enhances patient comfort with reduced noise levels and faster scanning times, making it suitable for a wide range of patients. The Canon MRI System is instrumental in identifying tumors, assessing their size and location, and detecting early signs of diseases such as neurological disorders, musculoskeletal issues and cardiovascular conditions. By delivering precise and reliable imaging, it supports early diagnosis and personalized treatment planning, improving patient outcomes. Learn more about these screenings below.

How Does It Work?

The Canon Vantage Galan 3T MRI system operates using powerful magnets and radio waves to generate detailed images of the body’s organs and tissues. Here’s a closer look at how it functions:

The MRI system generates a strong magnetic field around the patient. This magnetic field causes the protons in the body’s cells to align.

Short bursts of radio waves are then sent through the body. These waves cause the aligned protons to produce signals.

The signals are picked up by the machine’s detectors and processed by a computer to create detailed cross-sectional images.

Its technology ensures these images are exceptionally clear, allowing our physicians to detect even the smallest abnormalities.

Benefits of the Canon
MRI Machine

The advantages of the Canon Vantage Galan 3T MRI system are vast and far-reaching. We believe that this innovative technology will deliver unparalleled access to the scope of our patients’ internal bodily structures. Here are some of its benefits:

The machine is designed with patient comfort in mind, without sacrificing image quality. It features the largest bore opening for this type of MRI and faster scan times to reduce patient anxiety and the time spent in the machine.

It offers unparalleled image quality, providing our physicians with the detailed visuals necessary for an accurate diagnosis.

Equipped with advanced imaging sequences and software, it will allow for specialized scans, such as those needed for soft tissue injuries common in athletes.

Thanks to its enhanced technology, noise is reduced by up to 97% for a 3T MRI scan, making the experience more enjoyable.

Impact on Patient Care

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We strive to provide the very best treatment possible. With the addition of the Canon Vantage Galan 3T MRI at HROSM, we are making significant advancements in our diagnostic capabilities, and as a result, are able to deliver exceptional patient care. With this technology, we ensure:

With full body imaging, we can identify conditions at an earlier stage, which can lead to more effective treatment plans.

The machine allows us to develop tailored treatment strategies based on precise imaging results.

We can continuously monitor the progress of treatments and make necessary adjustments with accurate follow-up scans.

From scheduling to results, it allows us to deliver a seamless and efficient imaging experience to make your visit as smooth and hassle-free as possible.

Prioritizing Patient Safety

At HROSM, our patients’ safety is our number one priority, and with our new cutting-edge Canon Vantage Galan 3T MRI, we are elevating that value. Here is how this new innovative MRI technology gives our patients peace of mind while they are scanned:

The machine boasts a wider opening compared to other MRI machines on the market, allowing more room for the patient to enhance their comfort and reduce their anxiety.

The front of this machine is illuminated with additional lighting during scanning, helping ease any fears a patient may have about going into a confined space.

Patients are able to rest assured if they need to talk to the MRI operator they have the ability to do so. The patient call system has a hand switch that allows them to easily get in touch with the individual monitoring the scan. There is also a two-way intercom system, enhancing communication between the patient and the operator.

If for any reason the oxygen level falls during the scan, the oxygen monitor will automatically activate the patient supplied ventilation system.

In case of an emergency, there is a safety switch which triggers the ramp to lower, allowing the patient to get out safely.

MRI Costs: Why Your Copay Might Actually Save You Money

What You Pay vs. What It Actually Costs

When your doctor recommends an MRI, it’s natural to focus on one number: your copay. And that copay may feel steep—especially when you’re comparing options. But here’s the catch: what you pay up front isn’t the whole story.

The total cost of the MRI matters, too.

And where you get it can make a huge difference in your overall out-of-pocket expenses.

The Hidden Costs of Hospital-Based Imaging

Hospital systems often charge significantly more for the same MRI you can get at a physician-owned practice such as Hampton Roads Orthopaedic Spine and Sports Medicine (HROSM). It’s not uncommon to see MRI pricing at hospitals range between $1,500 and $3,000+, depending on the facility, while the same scan here at HROSM is as low as $495 for self-pay patients.

Even with insurance, your coinsurance or deductible is based on the total bill, which means higher costs at a hospital often lead to higher out-of-pocket expenses in the long run.

Why Physician-Owned Imaging Centers
Cost Less

Why does imaging cost so much more at a hospital? Due to their larger size and wider range of services, hospitals can negotiate higher reimbursement rates with insurance companies. Your insurance pays more so the hospital can charge more, leaving you with a steep copay.

As a physician-owned practice, HROSM offers MRI services right here in our own office. Because we are not a hospital or third-party imaging center, that means:

  • Lower negotiated rates with insurance companies

  • Transparent pricing, often as low as $495

  • No hidden fees or facility charges
  • Personalized care from the HROSM team—the same team treating your injury

We control our costs because we control the entire process from scheduling to scan to diagnosis. That copay might be the only thing you pay, while at a hospital, you might pay your copay plus 20–40% of a $3,000 bill.

In other words, choosing a physician-owned practice like HROSM could save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in the long run.

More Affordable and Faster Scanning

In addition to costing more, visiting a large hospital campus for your MRI often results in a less convenient, more stressful experience overall. A hospital visit typically involves building in extra time to find parking in a large garage, which may or may not require a long walk to the hospital entrance. Other barriers include locating the correct entrance and navigating hallways, elevators and floors to find the radiology department, followed by a lengthy wait time once you find it.

At HROSM, we guarantee a fast, stress-free visit, including:

  • A quick walk from your parked car to the MRI entrance
  • A warm welcome from an HROSM team member, who will assist you with our quick and easy check-in
  • A short wait time lasting no more than 5-10 minutes in our comfortable and calming waiting area
