We would like to welcome Shannon Andy, P.A-C to Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. She will be working with Dr. Adrian Baddar and his clinical team at our Newport News office. Shannon attended Averett University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. After graduating she became a certified Athletic Trainer, she currently maintains her NATA certification. She received her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Eastern Virginia Medical School in May 2014.
We sat down with Shannon today for a Q&A to get to know her a little bit more.
Question #1: What made you want to transition from Athletic Training to a career as a Physician Assistant?
I went into Athletic Training to become a physical therapist. During my schooling I found I preferred diagnosing and treating injuries over helping patients with rehab. I then made the decision to go to PA school.
Question #2: What part of orthopaedics do you enjoy the most?
I love orthopedics in general! My 2 favorite things would have to be being on the side line and assisting in joint replacements. My athletic training background had me on the sideline of football games where I have the first responder. I love comforting an athlete and caring for them on the field after and injury! Joint replacement surgeries are so interesting and in my opinion fun to perform. Also, you get the satisfaction of bettering someone’s life after the procedure!
Question #3:During your free time, what do you enjoy doing for fun?
During my free time I play beach volleyball and enjoy spending time with my family and beagle named “Frankie”.
We are excited to have Shannon join our practice and look forward to the opportunity to introduce her to you.
