Dr. Fithian’s New Role at HROSM: Focusing on Conservative Therapies On March 1st of 2020, Dr. Thomas Fithian will enter a new phase of his 35-year career as a shoulder specialist. In order to free up more time and flexibility to visit with his ever-growing family, he will no longer be doing surgery. However, he will continue to provide non-surgical diagnosis and treatment of shoulder and upper extremity problems to established patients as well as patients who are new to him.

Throughout his years in practice, Dr. Fithian has gained a reputation for taking the time to thoroughly get to know his patients.  Many of them have had complicated problems and some desired a second opinion after seeing other doctors. During his long career, it has been his experience that most patients desire a thorough evaluation of their condition along with a discussion of treatment options and a trial of conservative therapies before proceeding to surgery. He will continue to offer all of those services except surgery. Patients who ultimately require operative treatment for resolution of their problems will be able to choose their surgeon from among the other experienced surgeons in the practice.

Dr. Fithian looks forward to remaining an active member of HROSM and continuing to serve the Virginia Peninsula community in this new capacity.  To schedule an appointment with Dr. Fithian, please contact our office by calling 757-873-1554.
