WHAT THE SURGEON SEES
With the opening of the Open Multi-Positional MRI Center, the surgeons of Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine are able to bring the latest in MRI technology to Hampton Roads and surrounding areas.
Upright imaging will provide area physicians the ability to see a patient's pathology when the patient is experiencing pain in standing, sitting, in flexion and extension, and rotation and lateral bending. The design of the traditional MRI scanner cannot detect pathology that is only visible when the patient is scanned in the upright position.
In addition, the quality of the images will allow physicians to provide a more accurate diagnosis in a more rapid manner, ultimately achieving a quicker recovery time for the patient.
WHAT THE PATIENT SEES
With the use of multi-positional imaging, patients will have a more comfortable experience while undergoing an MRI scan. In addition, the multi-positional MRI is an excellent choice for those who experience a claustrophobic feeling with traditional scanners, as there is nothing in front of the patient's face. With upright imaging, the patient may watch a 42" flat-screen TV during the scan.
The multi-positional MRI also allows children an unprecedented degree of comfort while undergoing a scan. With the conventional MRI, children sometimes have to be anesthetized in order to be scanned. With upright imaging, infants and children can sit comfortably on their mother's lap during the entire scan, sleeping peacefully or watching cartoons.
