To provide patients with even more treatment options, HROSM has integrated spinal manipulation, acupuncture and laser therapy into its extensive pain management paradigm.

Michael S. Cook, D.C., DIP.AC, a board-certified chiropractic physician and acupuncturist, offers conservative therapies that can help resolve many common concerns, including mechanical back, neck and shoulder pain, fibromyalgia, muscle injuries, arthritis and headaches.

Dr. Cook’s expertise allows some patients to avoid more invasive treatments, offers hope if conventional therapies are not effective and can aid in recovery from surgery or other procedures. “It’s very gratifying to bring these treatments more into the mainstream, and to see the immediate pain relief they can provide,” he says.

In addition to spinal manipulation and acupuncture, Dr. Cook is specially trained in Gua-Sha, a traditional Chinese therapy that is especially effective for soft tissue pain. The non-invasive technique involves scraping the skin to produce light bruising, aiming to improve circulation and reduce inflammation to promote healing.

HROSM now also offers K-Laser’s Class IV Therapeutic Laser, an advanced, fast-acting tool that painlessly delivers specific wavelengths of light to again stimulate the body’s natural healing ability. The laser has successfully eased many types of joint pain.

Dr. Cook knows firsthand what conservative treatments can accomplish: a former competitive swimmer, he suffered a spinal fracture while lifting weights as a recent college graduate. He found relief only after adding a visit to a chiropractor to his physical therapy regimen. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned from studying business at a graduate school program to studying chiropractic medicine.

HROSM is excited to have Dr. Michael Cook join our Newport News practice several days a week. For more information or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Cook, fill out our online appointment request form or call our office today at 757-873-1554.
